Michael David Holton was born on August 4, 1961. He is an American former professional basketball player. Today, he works as a television studio analyst for the Portland Trail Blazers in the NBA.
Michael was born in Seattle, Washington. He played college basketball for the UCLA Bruins from 1979 to 1983.
Michael Holton's Playing Career
After college, Michael Holton was chosen in the third round of the 1983 NBA draft by the Golden State Warriors. He began his NBA career with the Phoenix Suns in the 1984–85 season.
Holton was a guard, standing 6 feet 4 inches tall and weighing 185 pounds. A guard in basketball is a player who usually handles the ball and helps set up plays. He also played for the Chicago Bulls, Portland Trail Blazers, and Charlotte Hornets.
He also spent time playing in the CBA. This was another professional basketball league in the United States. He played for four different teams in the CBA between 1983 and 1992. Michael even played briefly for a team called Great Taste Coffee in the Philippine Basketball Association.
From Player to Coach
After his playing career, Michael Holton became a basketball coach. In 1993–94, he was an assistant coach at Pasadena City College. He also served as an assistant coach at the University of Portland in 1994–95.
He continued as an assistant coach at Oregon State University in 1995–96. From 1996 until 2001, he was an assistant coach at UCLA, his old college team.
In 2001, Holton became the head coach for the University of Portland men's basketball team. His time as head coach there ended in March 2006. In 2013, Holton became a coach for the MAC Masters basketball team. He helped them win two PCAC titles and a National Championship in 2013.
Broadcasting Career
Today, Michael Holton is a television analyst for the Portland Trail Blazers. This means he helps explain the games and players to viewers on TV.
