Early Life and Education
Michael Rubin grew up in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He went to Yale University. He earned two degrees from Yale. In 1994, he received a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in biology. Later, in 1999, he earned a Ph.D. in history. His Ph.D. research paper was about the history of Iran. It was called The Making of Modern Iran, 1858–1909: Communications, Telegraph and Society. This paper won a special award from Yale University.
Career and Work
Mr. Rubin has taught history at several universities. These include Yale University, Hebrew University in Israel, and Johns Hopkins University. He also taught as a visiting lecturer in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. He taught at universities like the University of Sulaymaniyah and Salahaddin University.
From 2002 to 2004, Mr. Rubin worked for the Office of the Secretary of Defense. He was an advisor on issues related to Iran and Iraq. Between 2003 and 2004, he was a political advisor. He worked for the Coalition Provisional Authority in Baghdad, Iraq.
From 2004 to 2009, he was an editor for the Middle East Quarterly. This is a magazine that writes about the Middle East. He has also received special research grants. These came from groups like the Council on Foreign Relations.
