Michael Thomas started his professional football career in 2012. He has played for several teams throughout his time in the NFL.

Starting with the San Francisco 49ers

Thomas first signed with the San Francisco 49ers on May 4, 2012. He spent his first year on the team's practice squad. This is a group of players who train with the team but are not on the main roster. In 2013, he continued with the 49ers' practice squad.

Playing for the Miami Dolphins

On December 10, 2013, the Miami Dolphins signed Thomas. He made his first professional game appearance soon after. In one exciting game, he made an interception against New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady. This play helped the Dolphins win the game. He played in two more games that season.

In 2014, Thomas played in eight games for the Dolphins. He started two of those games. Unfortunately, he got a serious injury in Week 9 and missed the rest of the season. He finished that year with eighteen tackles.

Thomas became a regular starter for the Dolphins in 2015. He started 13 games as a free safety. He had a great game on December 20, 2015, making 11 tackles. He ended the season with 85 tackles.

Because of his excellent performance, Thomas was chosen for the 2019 Pro Bowl. This is an all-star game for the best players in the NFL. He was picked as a special teams player.

Joining the Houston Texans

On April 28, 2020, Thomas signed a one-year contract with the Houston Texans. In Week 10, he suffered another injury. He tore a muscle in his chest, which ended his season.

Playing for the Cincinnati Bengals

Thomas joined the Cincinnati Bengals practice squad on October 5, 2021. He was later moved to the main team roster.
