Michael Warren is an Irish artist born in 1950 in Gorey, County Wexford, Ireland. He is famous for creating large sculptures that are placed in specific outdoor locations, often in public spaces.

Michael was inspired by his art teacher, Oisín Kelly, at St Columba's College. He went on to study art at several places, including Bath Academy of Art, Trinity College Dublin, and the Accademia di Brera in Milan, Italy. Today, he lives and works in County Wexford.

Famous Sculptures in Ireland

Michael Warren has created many well-known sculptures in Ireland. One of his most famous is a large wooden sculpture in front of the Dublin Civic Offices. This area, called Wood Quay, was once the heart of Viking Dublin. The sculpture looks like a powerful Viking ship. It also shows the flow of the nearby Liffey as it enters its bay. This sculpture is a great example of how Michael balances different meanings in his art.

He also worked with Roland Tallon to create Tulach a' tSolais, which means "Mound of Light." This special memorial remembers the 1798 rebellion and is located at Oulart Hill, County Wexford. It's a room built inside a small hill. Inside, there are two curved oak shapes, and natural light shines in through a long slot in the ceiling. Even though it's an abstract design, Tulach a' tSolais is a popular local attraction.

Another of his works was Gateway in Dún Laoghaire. This sculpture was later removed and given back to the artist.

At the northern entrance to Leighlinbridge, County Carlow, you can find another sculpture by Michael Warren. This artwork shows the ancient thrones of the Kings of South Leinster, who once lived near the village at a place called Dinn Righ (The hill of the Kings).
