Michelle Hurd (born December 21, 1966) is an American actress. She is known for her many roles on television. She first appeared in the TV show Another World from 1991 to 1997. She became well-known for playing Detective Monique Jeffries in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit from 1999 to 2001.
After that, she starred in the show Leap Years (2001–2002). She also had repeating roles in popular shows like According to Jim (2004), ER (2006–2007), and Gossip Girl (2007–2008). Hurd also starred in The Glades (2010–2013) and Blindspot (2015–2018). She played Raffi Musiker in the science fiction series Star Trek: Picard from 2020 to 2023. Her movie Anyone but You (2023) was a big success.

Early Life and Education
Michelle Hurd is the daughter of actor Hugh Hurd. Her mother, Merlyn Hurd, was also an actress and a psychologist. Her parents met while working together in a Broadway show. Michelle has two sisters.
She finished high school at Saint Ann's School in 1984. She then graduated from Boston University in 1988. Michelle also studied dance at the Alvin Ailey School. After college, she continued her acting studies at London's National Theatre.
Acting Career Highlights
Michelle Hurd started her acting career in theatre. One of her first plays was The Constant Couple in 1990. She made her first appearance on Broadway in 1996 in the play Getting Away with Murder. She also acted in famous plays like Othello and Hamlet. Michelle won awards for her role in the play The Violet Hour.
Early TV Roles and Breakthrough
In 1997, Michelle Hurd played the superhero B.B. DaCosta / Fire in a TV pilot called Justice League of America. She also appeared in other early TV shows like New York Undercover and The Practice.
Her connection with the Law & Order shows began in 1997. Her performance in an episode of Law & Order caught the eye of producer Dick Wolf. Two years later, he cast her in the spin-off show Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. She played Detective Monique Jeffries alongside Christopher Meloni and Mariska Hargitay. She was a main character for the first season.
Continuing TV and Film Work
After Law & Order: SVU, Michelle Hurd had many other TV roles. She appeared in shows like Charmed, The O.C., According to Jim, and Gossip Girl. From 2006 to 2007, she had a repeating role on ER. She played Courtney Brown, a TV news producer.
In 2010, Hurd began a main role in the show The Glades. She played Colleen Manus. In 2014, she appeared as Constance "Connie" Irving in the popular streaming series Bosch.
In 2016, Michelle Hurd had a repeating role in the second season of Daredevil. She played D.A. Samantha Reyes. She first played this character in the show Jessica Jones.
In 2019, Hurd took on the role of Raffi Musiker in the Star Trek: Picard series. This show started streaming in January 2020 and finished in 2023. Since October 2021, Michelle Hurd has also served as the National Vice President for the Los Angeles branch of SAG-AFTRA. This is a big union for actors.
