The Microsoft Lumia was a type of mobile device that isn't made anymore. It was first designed by Nokia and later by Microsoft Mobile. The Lumia phones first came out in November 2011. They were created because Nokia and Microsoft worked together.
Lumia smartphones used Microsoft's software, called Windows Phone, and later Windows 10 Mobile. The name 'Lumia' comes from a Finnish word, lumi, which means "snow".

The Story of Lumia Phones
Nokia and Microsoft Team Up
On September 3, 2013, Microsoft announced that it would buy Nokia's mobile phone business. This deal was finished on April 25, 2014. After this, Microsoft Mobile took over making and taking care of the Lumia phones.
Changing to Microsoft Brand
Microsoft kept using the Nokia name on Lumia phones until October 2014. Then, they started to slowly remove the Nokia name. They began using only the Microsoft brand for their smartphones.
In November 2014, Microsoft showed off the first Lumia phone that only had the Microsoft name, not Nokia. This phone was called the Lumia 535.
Newer Lumia Phones and Windows 10
In October 2015, Microsoft announced new Lumia phones that used the Windows 10 Mobile system. These phones included the Lumia 950, Lumia 950 XL, and Lumia 550. The very last Lumia smartphone, the Lumia 650, was announced on February 15, 2016.
Why Lumia Phones Stopped Being Made
Sales of Lumia phones went down a lot after Windows 10 came out in 2015. Microsoft even stopped selling Lumia devices in its own stores for a short time at the end of 2016. By then, it was thought that fewer than one million units were sold. Sales started again in early 2017.
In October 2017, a Microsoft leader named Joe Belfiore said that Microsoft would no longer sell or make new Windows 10 Mobile phones. The phones that people already had would still get fixes for problems and security updates. These updates stopped for the newest devices in December 2019.
