Midden-Groningen (which means Middle-Groningen in English) is a special type of town area called a municipality. It is located in the Groningen province of the Netherlands. As of January 2018, about 60,953 people live there.
This municipality was created on January 1, 2018. It was formed by joining three older municipalities: Hoogezand-Sappemeer, Slochteren, and Menterwolde. This was part of a bigger plan to reorganize municipalities in the Groningen province between 2013 and 2018.

The name for the new municipality was chosen by the people living there. On March 15, 2016, the new name was announced in the village of Zuidbroek.
Residents had to choose between three names: Hogewolden, Woldmeren, and Midden-Groningen. Almost half of the people (48 percent) voted for Midden-Groningen. On April 26, 2016, the leaders of the three old municipalities officially agreed to the name.
