Playing Career Highlights
Miguel Ángel Angulo started his football journey in Oviedo, Asturias. He first played for Sporting de Gijón. In January 1996, when he was 18, he joined Valencia CF.
Time with Valencia CF
After playing for Valencia's reserve team, Valencia B, Angulo was loaned to Segunda División club Villarreal CF for the 1996–97 season. He then returned to Valencia.
Angulo played 434 games for Valencia and scored 67 goals. He was a key player when Valencia won the La Liga title in 2002 and 2004. He also played in the 2004 UEFA Cup final, which Valencia won. He even scored goals in earlier rounds of that tournament. Sometimes, he played as a right-back, helping the team's defense.
In 2004, Angulo almost moved to Arsenal in London. But he changed his mind at the last minute. He continued to play a lot for Valencia in the next three seasons. He scored 15 goals in 93 league games during this time. In December 2004, he was suspended for seven matches by UEFA after an incident in a UEFA Cup game.
In late 2007, Angulo was temporarily removed from the team by the new coach. But in April 2008, he was brought back. He helped Valencia avoid relegation. He even scored a goal in a big 5–1 win against Levante UD.
Short Spell at Sporting CP
In August 2009, Angulo left Valencia after 14 years. He then signed a one-year contract with Sporting CP in Portugal. However, after only four months, he left the club. He then decided to retire from playing football.
International Football
Angulo played for the Spanish national team 11 times. His first game was on November 17, 2004, in a friendly match against England. He never played in a major international tournament like the World Cup.
He also played for Spain's youth teams. He was part of the team that won a silver medal at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. He also played for the Asturias regional team in 2000.
Coaching Career
After retiring as a player, Angulo returned to Valencia as a coach. In 2014, he started coaching the Infantil B youth team. In December 2015, he became an assistant coach for the main Valencia team. He worked alongside Gary Neville. He left this role in March 2016.
