Michael Gerard Hagerty (born May 10, 1954 – died May 5, 2022) was an American actor. He was famous for playing funny, everyday working-class characters. You might remember him as Mr. Treeger, the building manager, on the popular TV show Friends. He also played the manager of a car repair shop on the HBO show Lucky Louie.

Early Life and Beginnings
Mike Hagerty was born in Chicago, Illinois, on May 10, 1954. His family was Irish Catholic. His father worked as a police officer. Mike went to St. Cajetan Elementary School and then Marist High School in Chicago. He later studied acting at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Before becoming an actor, he worked at a restaurant and a Shell gas station.
Acting Career Highlights
Mike Hagerty started acting after his friend, Jim Belushi, invited him to join a famous comedy group called The Second City. He helped write and perform in three shows there in the 1980s. He even taught the cast to sing the "Bear Down, Chicago Bears" song!
He began acting in films and TV shows in 1983, starting with Doctor Detroit. Mike was known for his mustache and his strong Chicago accent.
Famous TV Roles
Most of Mike's acting career was in television. He had small but memorable roles in many popular comedies. These include Martin, Cheers, The Wayans Bros., Curb Your Enthusiasm, Friends, Seinfeld, and The Wonder Years. He was one of only twenty actors to appear in both Friends and Seinfeld.
Mike was also a regular on The George Carlin Show, which was his first ongoing TV role. One of his last acting jobs was on the show Somebody Somewhere. He was still filming this show when he passed away.
Personal Life
Mike Hagerty was married to Mary Kathryn. They met when they were in their early twenties, working at a small theater in Chicago. He reportedly took her to Ireland to propose to her on New Year's Eve.
Mike moved to Los Angeles in the 1980s. However, he always stayed connected to his hometown of Chicago. He often helped with fundraisers for local arts centers and churches there.
His Passing
Mike Hagerty passed away on May 5, 2022, at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. He was 67 years old. He had a seizure and went into a coma. The seizure was caused by a bad reaction to antibiotics he was taking for an infection in his leg.
