High School Basketball Journey
Mike Scott played basketball during his high school years at Deep Creek High School. He then spent a year at Hargrave Military Academy to prepare for college.
College Basketball Career
Mike Scott had a strong start in his first three years at the University of Virginia. He was the top rebounder for the Virginia Cavaliers during his second and third years.
He was expected to have a great year in the 2010–11 season. Scott started strong, averaging about 16 points and 10 rebounds in the first ten games. However, his season ended early because of an ankle injury that required surgery.
Because of his injury, Scott was allowed to play an extra year of college basketball. In the 2011–12 season, he became one of the best players in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). He averaged 18 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. He was also the best in the ACC at shooting, making 56.3% of his shots.
Scott helped his team achieve a 22–10 record. This led them to their first NCAA tournament appearance in five years. They lost to Florida in the first round. Mike Scott was recognized as one of the best players in his conference and even in the country.
He finished his college career at Virginia with 1,538 points. He is also the third-best rebounder in Cavalier history with 944 rebounds.
