Mikyla Grant-Mentis (born July 15, 1998) is a talented Canadian professional ice hockey player. She plays as a forward for PWHL Seattle in the Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL). Mikyla is known for being the all-time leading scorer for the Merrimack Warriors women's ice hockey team. In 2021, she made history as the first Black player to win the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award in the Premier Hockey Federation (PHF).

Mikyla's Hockey Journey
College Hockey Days
Mikyla played college ice hockey for four years with the Merrimack Warriors. This team is part of Merrimack College in Massachusetts. During her senior year, she had an amazing game against Maine, scoring four points. This made her only the second player in Merrimack's history to get over 100 points!
She also scored three goals in one game (a hat-trick) against Brown. Mikyla was a top player in her league, ranking second in goals and top-10 in scoring across the country. Overall, she scored 117 points (56 goals and 61 assists) in 137 games. She holds the record for most points and assists in Merrimack Warriors history.
Starting Professional Hockey
Mikyla began her professional career in February 2020, joining the Buffalo Beauts for the end of the 2019–20 NWHL season. She quickly made an impact, scoring three points in just two games. She was even named Player of the Week in her very first week!
In May 2020, she signed with the Toronto Six, a new team in the PHF. Her first goal for the Six was in January 2021. She also scored the winning goal in the Six's first-ever victory. Mikyla had an incredible season with the Toronto Six. She became the most awarded player in a single PHF season, winning four honors. This included being the first Black player to win both the Most Valuable Player and Newcomer of the Year awards. She was also the top scorer for the Six, helping them win the regular season title.
In May 2022, Mikyla returned to the Buffalo Beauts. She signed a one-year deal worth $80,000, which made her the highest-paid player in PHF history at that time.
Playing in the PWHL
After the PHF league ended in 2023, a new league called the PWHL (Professional Women's Hockey League) was formed. Mikyla was not drafted by a team at first, but she signed a contract as a free agent with PWHL Ottawa. Later, she signed a Reserve Player Contract with PWHL Montreal in March 2024. During the 2024–25 season, she scored three goals and five assists in 30 games for the Montreal Victoire (the team's name for that season). On June 20, 2025, Mikyla signed a two-year contract to play for PWHL Seattle.

Mikyla Grant-Mentis was born on July 15, 1998, in Brampton, Ontario, Canada. Her parents are Sandra Grant-Mentis and James Mentis. Her father played ball hockey for Team Canada and Team West Indies. Mikyla has two siblings, Marquis and Tre.
Mikyla also studied hard in college. She earned a bachelor's degree in criminology from Merrimack College.
