Miles is a small, quiet place in Lincoln County, Washington. It is an "unincorporated community," which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Miles is located right next to Fort Spokane, a historic site where the Spokane River flows into the big Columbia River.
History of Miles
Miles has a history connected to mail and a famous general. A place for sending and receiving mail, called a post office, was open in Miles for a long time. It operated from 1881 until 1962.
This community was named after a well-known military leader, General Nelson A. Miles. He was an important figure in American history. The post office in Miles also served as the official mailing address for nearby Fort Spokane.
