History
Milford was officially planned and laid out in 1866. The city got its name from a special place: there was a mill (a building that grinds grain) located near a shallow part of the Blue River where people could cross, called a "ford." So, "mill" + "ford" became Milford.
Geography
Milford covers a total area of about 0.79 square miles (2.05 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, with only a small part being water.
