The minor red bat (Lasiurus minor) is a small bat that lives in the Caribbean islands. You can find it in places like the Bahamas, Hispaniola (which includes the Dominican Republic and Haiti), and Puerto Rico. It's quite rare in Puerto Rico, with only a few bats ever seen there.

What it Eats and How it Lives

The minor red bat likes to be alone. It's an insect-eater, meaning it only eats insects. It looks for its food in open areas, flying around to catch bugs. When it's time to rest, it hides among the leaves of trees. This bat is a very fast flyer, but it's not very good at making quick turns or sharp movements in the air.

Why it Needs Our Help

Sadly, the number of minor red bats is going down. This is happening because of several reasons. Strong storms like hurricanes can harm their homes. Also, their homes are being destroyed as more people build and develop land. Because of these problems, the minor red bat is listed as "vulnerable" by the IUCN Red List. This means it's at risk of becoming endangered if we don't protect it.
