Mira started playing the accordion when she was very young. The first instrument she really focused on was the guitar. Her parents supported her choice to follow music.
Mira's Career Journey
Studying Genetics
After finishing her first university degree, Mira decided to study genetics. She became a student at the University of Oxford. She was working towards a special science degree called a DPhil, which is like a PhD.
In 2003, her university department even mentioned her band's second album. This showed they knew about her music career.
Mira decided to leave her science studies before finishing her degree. She realized that working in a lab wasn't for her. She was enjoying making music with Ladytron much more. She said it was "easier and more fun" to travel the world playing music.
Making Music with Ladytron
In the summer of 1999, two music producers and DJs, Daniel Hunt and Reuben Wu, met Mira. They also met another student named Helen Marnie. They all loved similar kinds of music.
Because of their shared interests, they formed the electronic band Ladytron that same year. Since then, Mira has been a key part of the band. She sings, plays synthesizers, and helps write songs.
Mira has also worked with other bands. She sang on a song called "Don't Eat Meat" with the band The Projects. She also collaborated with John Foxx on a song called "Watching a Building on Fire."
Working in Film and TV
Mira Aroyo has also worked behind the scenes in film and TV. In 2018, she was a producer for a documentary. It was called "Can You Feel It - How Dance Music Conquered the World."
She also directed a TV series for Netflix in 2020. This series was named "History 101."
Mira's Personal Life
Mira Aroyo married Harry Hardie in 2010. He works with photography. They have a daughter together and live in London.
Mira is a pescetarian, which means she eats fish but no other meat. She cares a lot about animal rights. She is also interested in architecture, which is the design of buildings. She even made a short film called The Folly about a lady's cottage home.
Instruments Mira Plays
When Ladytron performs live, Mira Aroyo often plays synthesizers. She also sings during the shows. Her main synthesizer is the Korg MS-20. She has used this instrument since the band first started.
Over the years, Mira has played different instruments live for Ladytron:
- For the 604 tour, she used a Korg MS-20, Jen SX-1000, Stylophone, and a Speak and Spell.
- On the Light & Magic tour, she played the Korg MS-20 and a Roland Juno 6.
- During the Witching Hour and Velocifero tours, she used the Korg MS-20 and a Korg MS2000B.
Sometimes, Ladytron would give names to their identical Korg MS2000B keyboards. This made it easier to set them up on stage. Mira's MS2000B keyboard was called Babylon.
