Mirka Federer (born Miroslava Vavrincová on April 1, 1978) is a former professional tennis player from Switzerland. She was born in Slovakia.
Mirka is married to the famous tennis player Roger Federer. They first met at the 2000 Summer Olympics. She stopped playing tennis professionally in 2002 because of a foot injury. When she retired, she was ranked among the top 100 players in the world.
Early Life and Tennis Career
Miroslava was born in Bojnice, which was then part of Czechoslovakia. She moved to Switzerland when she was two years old. When she was nine, in 1987, her father took her to a tennis tournament in Germany. There, Mirka met the legendary tennis player Martina Navratilova. Martina thought Mirka looked strong and suggested she try tennis. Later, Navratilova even sent her a racquet and helped her get her first tennis lesson.
In 2002, Mirka played alongside Roger Federer in the Hopman Cup tournament. Her best performance in a major tournament, called a Grand Slam, was in 2001. She reached the third round of the US Open. During her career, she played against Monica Seles twice.
Unfortunately, a foot injury kept bothering Mirka. This injury stopped her from moving higher in the tennis rankings. It eventually made her retire from playing tennis professionally in 2002. Before she retired, her highest ranking was No. 76 in 2001. After she stopped playing, Mirka became Roger Federer's public relations manager. She often traveled with him to his matches and was seen supporting him.
Personal Life
Mirka married Roger Federer on April 11, 2009. Their wedding took place at Wenkenhof Villa in Riehen, near Basel, Switzerland. Only a small group of close friends and family were there to celebrate with them.
In 2009, Mirka and Roger welcomed their first children, identical twin girls named Myla and Charlene. A few years later, in 2014, they had another set of twins. This time, they were fraternal twin boys, Leo and Lenny.
