Bottmingen (called Bottmige in Swiss German) is a town in the canton of Basel-Land in Switzerland. It is part of the Arlesheim district.

History of Bottmingen
Bottmingen was first mentioned in official records way back in 1246. At that time, it was known as Bothmingen. For a long time, until 1837, it was actually part of a nearby town called Binningen. Over the years, Bottmingen grew and became part of the larger city area of Basel.
Geography of Bottmingen
Bottmingen covers an area of about 2.99 square kilometers (which is about 1.15 square miles). A good part of this land, about 25.8%, is used for farming. Forests cover another 18.4% of the area, making it a green place.
Most of Bottmingen, about 53.8%, has buildings and roads. This means a lot of the land is developed for people to live and work. A small part, less than 1%, is made up of rivers or lakes. The town is located along the Birsig river, which adds to its natural beauty.
Bottmingen's Coat of Arms
The official symbol of Bottmingen, its coat of arms, shows two crossed shapes on a red background. What these shapes mean exactly isn't fully clear. However, this symbol was once the seal of a noble family from Basel named Schilling. They were the second owners of the famous Bottmingen Castle.
