The Miss Universe România is a national beauty pageant in Romania. This contest chooses Romania's representative to the Miss Universe pageant, which is a big international competition.

History of the Pageant
Early Days of Miss România
The Miss România contest first started in the late 1920s. The very first winner was Magda Demetrescu in 1929. She then went on to compete in an early version of the Miss Universe pageant. This old pageant was called the International Pageant of Pulchritude. It was held in Texas, USA. Magda Demetrescu placed sixth in that competition. The next year, in 1930, Mariana Mirica placed third. This international pageant ended in 1932. Later, in 1935, Dorothee Cristescu took part in a "Miss Universe" event in Brussels.
Pageant Pauses and Returns
Romania stopped sending representatives to international pageants for a while. This break started around 1929. During the 1970s, a different kind of pageant was held in the country.
Romania returned to the modern Miss Universe pageant in 1991. Daniella Nane was the first Miss Romania to participate then. A famous Romanian gymnast, Nadia Comăneci, was even one of the judges that year. After 1998, Romania did not compete in Miss Universe for 11 years. They finally returned in 2009. In 2016, a company called Royal Business Corporation took over the rights to organize the Miss Universe Romania contest. Mr. Ernest Hadrian Böhm became its owner and CEO.
