History of Miss Romania Pageants
The first Miss Romania contest started way back in the late 1920s. A woman named Magda Demetrescu won the very first pageant in 1929. She then went on to compete in an early version of the Miss Universe pageant in Texas, where she placed sixth. The next year, Mariana Mirica placed third. After this international contest ended in 1932, another Romanian contestant, Dorothee Cristescu, took part in a "Miss Universe" event in Brussels in 1935.
Romania stopped sending representatives to international pageants for a long time. There was a local contest in the 1970s, but it wasn't for Miss Universe.
Romania Joins Modern Miss Universe
Romania started participating in the modern Miss Universe pageant in 1991. Daniella Nane was the first Miss Romania to compete. A very famous Romanian gymnast, Nadia Comăneci, was even one of the judges that year! After 1998, Romania didn't send anyone to Miss Universe for 11 years. They finally returned in 2009. In 2016, a company called Royal Business Corporation, led by Mr. Ernest Hadrian Böhm, took over the rights to organize the Miss Universe Romania contest.
