Mister Miracle (whose real name is Scott Free) is a famous superhero from DC Comics. He first appeared in a comic book called Mister Miracle #1 in April 1971. This character was created by the legendary comic book artist and writer Jack Kirby. Mister Miracle is known as the greatest escape artist in the universe!
Who is Mister Miracle?
Mister Miracle is part of a big story called the "Fourth World" saga, created by Jack Kirby. This story tells about two planets, New Genesis and Apokolips, and their never-ending war.
The Story of Scott Free
Scott Free is the most famous hero to use the name Mister Miracle. His life story is quite amazing and full of challenges.
Early Life and Escape
Scott Free was born on the peaceful planet New Genesis. His father is Highfather, the leader of New Genesis. To stop a terrible war with the dark planet Apokolips, Highfather made a deal with its evil ruler, Darkseid. They exchanged their sons to ensure peace. Scott was sent to live on Apokolips, while Darkseid's son, Orion, went to New Genesis.
Scott grew up in a harsh orphanage on Apokolips, run by the cruel Granny Goodness. He didn't know about his true family. As he got older, Scott hated the strict rules of Apokolips. He learned secret lessons from a rebel named Himon. During these lessons, he met Big Barda, who would later become his wife.
Eventually, Scott Free escaped from Apokolips and came to Earth. His escape broke the peace treaty between the two planets, giving Darkseid a reason to restart the war. On Earth, Scott met a circus escape artist named Thaddeus Brown, who was also called Mister Miracle. Scott learned many tricks from him. Thaddeus Brown's assistant, a dwarf named Oberon, became Scott's friend.
Life on Earth and the Justice League
After Thaddeus Brown was murdered, Scott Free took on the name Mister Miracle to honor him. Big Barda soon followed Scott to Earth. Together, they used their special powers and gadgets to fight against Darkseid's forces. Scott even went back to Apokolips to legally win his freedom through a special combat trial.
Later, Scott Free, Big Barda, and Oberon joined the Justice League International, a team of superheroes. In this time, Scott and Barda tried to live a normal life in the suburbs when they weren't saving the world. Scott was sometimes shown as a husband who got into funny arguments with Barda about their quiet life.
Scott also had a big rivalry with a villain named Manga Khan. This space trader often kidnapped Scott. Once, Manga Khan even replaced Scott with a robot to make him perform as an entertainer. Scott eventually escaped and rejoined his wife and friends. After this, he decided to train a new hero, Shilo Norman, to take on the Mister Miracle name.
Other Mister Miracles
While Scott Free is the most famous, he wasn't the only one to be called Mister Miracle.
Thaddeus Brown
Thaddeus Brown was the first person to use the name Mister Miracle. He was a circus escape artist. He taught Scott Free many of his amazing escape tricks. After Thaddeus was murdered, Scott took over the name to bring his killer to justice.
Shilo Norman
Shilo Norman was a young friend and helper of Thaddeus Brown. He sometimes filled in for Thaddeus. After Scott Free became Mister Miracle, Shilo worked with him and Big Barda. Shilo grew up to be a master escape artist himself. He became the security chief of a special prison for super-powered beings called the Slab. Shilo later became the new Mister Miracle, fighting evil gods in his own adventures.
Amazing Powers and Gadgets
Mister Miracle has many incredible powers and uses cool equipment to help him escape from any trap and fight villains.
Special Abilities
Like all the New Gods, Scott Free is super strong, fast, and agile. He can heal very quickly and is immune to many poisons and diseases. He also doesn't age past his 30s. Scott is incredibly smart and knows a lot about the universe and advanced technology. He was trained to be a master fighter and is skilled with many weapons.
Scott is the best escape artist in the universe, even better than Batman! He can get out of any trap. He also has a special power called the Alpha Effect, which is the opposite of Darkseid's evil Omega Energy. This power lets him boost his physical abilities, shoot energy blasts, fly, and even bring people back to life. He can also use the Anti-Life Equation, which gives him the power to control the minds of others, but he rarely uses it because it's fueled by negative emotions.
Cool Equipment
- Mother Box: This is a super-smart, living computer that helps Mister Miracle in many ways. It can open special "boom tubes" for teleportation, heal him, and control his other gadgets.
- Costume: His suit is magnetically sealed and protects him from damage and fire. It has many hidden pockets for his tools.
- Mask: His mask has circuits connected to his Mother Box and a life support system, letting him breathe in dangerous places.

- Boots: The soles of his boots have laser-jets that can burn through almost any surface.
- Cape: His cape is made of a special material that can turn into a super-strong cocoon to protect him from explosions, but it can only do this once.
- Aero Discs: These thin metal plates let him fly at very high speeds. They can fold into his boots when not in use.
- Assorted Picks: He uses special tools, like an electro pick, to open locks and disable security systems.
- Multi-Cube: This small device works with his Mother Box to create many useful things. It can make a long swing line, smoke screens, fire foam, bright lights, or even realistic holograms. It can also make a powerful sound beam to break walls or stun enemies.
