Moenave, also called Moa Ave, is a small community in Coconino County, Arizona, United States. It's known as a populated place, which means it's an area where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. The name Moenave became official in 1971. This place is about 1,455 meters (4,774 feet) above sea level.

Discovering Moenave's Past

Moenave became famous after a new road, U.S. Route 160, was built through Arizona. During the road's construction, something amazing was found: many dinosaur tracks!

Dinosaur Footprints Preserved

Millions of years ago, this area was a shallow marshland. Dinosaurs walked through the soft mud, leaving their footprints. The mud then dried out very quickly. This turned the mud and the tracks into hard rock. This process preserved the footprints for a very long time.

Types of Dinosaurs at Moenave

You can find clear tracks from different dinosaurs at the site. These include the mighty Tyrannosaurus Rex, the quick Velociraptor, and the flying Pterodactylus. Many other types of dinosaur tracks are also there.

Other Fossil Finds

Besides the footprints, some dinosaur bones and raptor claws have been found. These remains are not as well-preserved as the tracks. The best fossils found in Moenave were taken by scientists. They are now shown in museums for everyone to see.
