Early Life and High School Football
Mohammed Seisay grew up in Springfield, Virginia. He went to West Springfield High School. There, he was a very important player for his high school football team. He helped them reach the playoffs for the first time in 14 years, which was a big achievement!
During his senior year in 2007, Mohammed made 35 tackles, caught four interceptions (stopping the other team's passes), and broke up 10 other passes. He also forced one fumble, which is when a player drops the ball. Because of his great performance, he was named to the all-district first-team.
College Football Journey
Mohammed started his college football career at the University of Memphis. After some time there, he decided to transfer to the University of Nebraska.
At Nebraska, Mohammed was not only a dedicated athlete but also a good student. He was named to the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll, showing he did well in his studies while playing football.
Professional Football Career
Mohammed Seisay played for several professional football teams across different leagues.
Playing for the Detroit Lions
In 2014, after finishing college, Mohammed Seisay was signed by the Detroit Lions. He joined them as an undrafted free agent. This means that even though he wasn't picked during the main NFL Draft, the Lions saw his talent and offered him a contract.
Initially, Mohammed was part of the Lions' practice squad. This is a group of players who train with the team but don't usually play in games. However, on September 20, 2014, he was moved to the active roster, which meant he could now play in official games for the team.
Time with the Seattle Seahawks
On August 2, 2015, Mohammed Seisay was traded from the Detroit Lions to the Seattle Seahawks. In exchange for him, the Lions received a 6th round draft pick for the 2016 NFL Draft. A draft pick is like a ticket that allows a team to choose a new player in the future.
When he joined the Seahawks, Mohammed became part of their famous defensive group known as the "Legion of Boom." This was a very strong and well-known group of defensive players, including stars like Richard Sherman, Earl Thomas, Kam Chancellor, and Jeremy Lane.
Adventures in Other Leagues
After his time in the NFL, Mohammed Seisay played in other professional football leagues.
He signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the Canadian Football League (CFL) on September 11, 2017, but was later released. He then joined the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the CFL on May 16, 2018, but was released before the season started.
In 2019, Mohammed signed with the Memphis Express in the Alliance of American Football (AAF) on February 21, but was waived a few days later.
Finally, on October 16, 2019, he was drafted by the Seattle Dragons in the XFL draft. Unfortunately, he was placed on injured reserve on March 2, 2020, meaning he couldn't play due to an injury. His contract ended when the XFL league stopped its operations on April 10, 2020.
