Kameron Darnel Chancellor (born April 3, 1988), known as "Bam Bam Kam", is a former American football safety. He played his entire nine-year career with the Seattle Seahawks in the National Football League (NFL). Before joining the NFL, he played college football for the Virginia Tech Hokies. The Seahawks picked him in the fifth round of the 2010 NFL draft. Kam Chancellor was chosen for the Pro Bowl four times. He was a key player in the Seahawks' famous defensive group called the Legion of Boom. He also helped the Seahawks win Super Bowl XLVIII. Chancellor stopped playing football because of a neck injury he got in 2017.

Early Life and High School Football
Kam Chancellor was born in Norfolk, Virginia, on April 3, 1988. He went to Matthew Fontaine Maury High School. There, he played both basketball and football. In football, he played as a quarterback and a safety.
As a senior in 2005, he had over 2,000 passing yards and 500 rushing yards. He led his team to a great 10–2 record. His team also made it to the playoffs. Chancellor was named his team's most valuable player. He was also chosen for the All-Eastern District first-team. He received a scholarship offer from Virginia Tech.

College Football Career
Chancellor started at Virginia Tech in 2006. He first tried out as a quarterback. Then, he moved to play cornerback before the season began. As a freshman, he played in all 13 games. He made nine tackles and had one interception.
In 2007, he became the starting rover and played on special teams. He started all 14 games. He recorded 79 tackles and one interception that year.
Before the 2008 season, Chancellor moved again, this time to free safety. He started all 14 games. He made 52 tackles and two interceptions. After this season, he thought about joining the NFL early. However, he decided to stay at Virginia Tech for his senior year.
Before his senior season in 2009, his coach said Chancellor could be "the greatest safety in Virginia Tech history." In his final college season, Chancellor had two interceptions and 68 total tackles. Chancellor often said he wanted to play like the late Washington Redskins safety Sean Taylor. He would watch Taylor's highlights on YouTube for motivation. In 2022, Chancellor was honored by being elected to the Virginia Tech Sports Hall of Fame.

Joining the Seattle Seahawks
The Seattle Seahawks chose Kam Chancellor in the fifth round of the 2010 NFL draft. He was the 133rd player picked overall. He signed a four-year contract with the Seahawks on June 2, 2010.
In his first year, 2010, he played in all 16 games. He made 23 tackles and forced one fumble. He did not start any games that season.
Becoming a Starter and Pro Bowler
In 2011, Chancellor became the starting strong safety for the Seahawks. He played alongside free safety Earl Thomas. He had a great season with 97 tackles, 13 passes defended, and four interceptions. He was chosen for his first Pro Bowl as a replacement player.
In 2012, he continued as a starting safety. He had a career-high 101 tackles in 16 games.
Super Bowl Champion and All-Pro Seasons
On April 22, 2013, the Seahawks signed Chancellor to a new four-year contract. In 2013, he recorded 99 tackles and three interceptions. He was named to his second Pro Bowl.
The Seahawks had an amazing season in 2013. They won their division and made it to the playoffs. Chancellor played a big role in their playoff run. On February 2, 2014, the Seahawks won Super Bowl XLVIII by beating the Denver Broncos 43–8. Chancellor made ten tackles and had an interception in the Super Bowl. After the season, his fellow players ranked him 65th among the top 100 NFL players.
In 2014, Chancellor was chosen as a team captain. He had another strong season with 78 tackles and one interception. He was named to his third Pro Bowl and was also selected for the Second-team All-Pro team. In the playoffs, he had a memorable game against the Carolina Panthers. He made nine tackles and returned an interception 87 yards for a touchdown. This was his third straight playoff game with an interception. The Seahawks made it to Super Bowl XLIX but lost to the New England Patriots. He was ranked 41st by his fellow players in 2015.
Later Seasons and Injury
In 2015, Chancellor missed the first two games because he wanted a new contract. When he returned, the Seahawks improved their record. He earned a trip to the 2016 Pro Bowl. In the playoffs, he forced a crucial fumble against the Minnesota Vikings, helping the Seahawks win a close game. He was ranked 32nd by his fellow players in 2016.
In 2016, Chancellor was again named a defensive team captain. He had 47 tackles and two interceptions. He was ranked 34th by his fellow players in 2017.
On August 1, 2017, Chancellor signed a new three-year contract extension. However, he suffered a neck injury in Week 10 of the 2017 season. This injury caused him to miss the rest of the season. Even though he only played in nine games, he was named a Pro Bowl alternate. He was still ranked 75th by his peers in 2018.
Retirement from Football
On July 1, 2018, Kam Chancellor shared that his neck injury had not healed enough for him to play again. He explained that he had spinal stenosis and bone spurs in his neck, which made it too risky to continue playing. He officially left the Seahawks roster on May 9, 2019, after failing a physical.

Personal Life
Kam Chancellor and his wife, Tiffany, have a son who was born in July 2019. When he was a child, Chancellor often visited the Boys and Girls Club. With his wife, he also launched a line of luxury shoes called "the Chancellor Collection."
Chancellor's nephew, KeAndre Lambert-Smith, plays in the NFL as a wide receiver for the Los Angeles Chargers.
