Kameron Darnel Chancellor (born April 3, 1988) is a former American football player. People called him "Bam Bam Kam" because of his strong tackles. He played as a safety for the Seattle Seahawks in the National Football League (NFL) for nine years.
Before joining the NFL, he played college football for the Virginia Tech Hokies. The Seahawks chose him in the fifth round of the 2010 NFL draft. Kam Chancellor was picked for the Pro Bowl four times. He was a very important part of the Seahawks' strong defense, known as the "Legion of Boom". He helped the Seahawks win Super Bowl XLVIII. Kam Chancellor stopped playing football because of a neck injury he got in 2017.

Kam Chancellor's Early Life and High School Football
Kam Chancellor was born in Norfolk, Virginia, on April 3, 1988. He went to Matthew Fontaine Maury High School. There, he played both basketball and football. In football, he played as a quarterback and a safety.
In his last year of high school in 2005, he threw for over 2,000 yards and ran for over 500 yards. He led his team to a great 10–2 record. He was named his team's most valuable player. Experts thought he was one of the best quarterback players in the country. Kam Chancellor decided to accept a scholarship to play football at Virginia Tech.
Kam Chancellor's College Football Career
Kam Chancellor started at Virginia Tech in 2006. He first tried playing as a quarterback. But before the season began, he moved to play cornerback. In his first year, he played in all 13 games. He made nine tackles and had one interception.
In 2007, he became a starter at the rover position. He also played on special teams. He started all 14 games. That year, he made 79 tackles and had one interception.
Before the 2008 season, Chancellor changed positions again, this time to free safety. He started all 14 games. He made 52 tackles and had two interceptions. After this season, he thought about joining the NFL early but decided to stay for his senior year.
Before his last year in 2009, his coach said Kam could be "the greatest safety in Virginia Tech history." In his senior year, Kam had two interceptions and 68 tackles. Kam Chancellor said he wanted to play like the famous safety Sean Taylor. He would watch Sean Taylor's highlights on YouTube to get motivated before games. In 2022, Kam Chancellor was honored and added to the Virginia Tech Sports Hall of Fame.
Kam Chancellor's NFL Career with the Seattle Seahawks
The Seattle Seahawks chose Kam Chancellor in the fifth round of the 2010 NFL draft. He was the 133rd player picked overall. He was the second safety the Seahawks drafted that year.
On June 2, 2010, Kam Chancellor signed a four-year contract with the Seahawks.
Rookie Season: 2010
In his first year, Kam Chancellor played in all 16 games. He made his first professional tackle on September 26, 2010. In that game, he also forced a fumble. He ended his rookie season with 23 tackles and one sack. He did not start any games this year.
Becoming a Starter: 2011
In 2011, Kam Chancellor became the starting strong safety for the Seahawks. He played alongside Earl Thomas. In the first game, he made ten tackles. On September 25, 2011, he got his first career interception. He finished the season with 97 tackles, 13 pass deflections, and four interceptions. He was second on the team in tackles and interceptions. Because of his great play, he was chosen for the 2012 Pro Bowl.
Strong Play Continues: 2012
Kam Chancellor continued to be the starting strong safety in 2012. On October 14, 2012, he made a season-high 11 tackles. He finished his third season with a career-high 101 tackles. He started all 16 games that year.
Super Bowl Champion: 2013
On April 22, 2013, the Seahawks signed Kam Chancellor to a new four-year contract. He continued to be a key player in the Seahawks' defense. In Week 2, he intercepted a pass by Colin Kaepernick. He finished the 2013 season with 99 tackles and three interceptions. He was chosen for his second Pro Bowl.
The Seahawks had a fantastic season, winning 13 games and making it to the playoffs. On January 11, 2014, Kam Chancellor played in his first playoff game. He made 14 tackles. The Seahawks won the NFC Championship game and went to Super Bowl XLVIII. On February 2, 2014, Kam Chancellor made ten tackles and intercepted a pass from quarterback Peyton Manning. The Seahawks won the Super Bowl 43–8 against the Denver Broncos.
Another Great Season: 2014
In 2014, Kam Chancellor was chosen as a team captain. In the first game, he made 11 tackles. On September 21, 2014, he had a great game against the Denver Broncos. He made nine tackles, an interception, and forced a fumble. He won the NFC Defensive Player of the Week award twice that season. He was chosen for his third Pro Bowl.
In the playoffs, Kam Chancellor had an amazing game against the Carolina Panthers. He made nine tackles and returned an interception 87 yards for a touchdown! This was his third playoff game in a row with an interception. In Super Bowl XLIX, Kam Chancellor made 10 tackles, but the Seahawks lost to the New England Patriots.
Contract Holdout and Return: 2015
Before the 2015 season, Kam Chancellor wanted a new contract. He missed the first two games of the season. The Seahawks lost both games. Kam Chancellor returned in Week 3, and the team started winning. For his strong play, he was chosen for the 2016 Pro Bowl.
In the playoffs, Kam Chancellor forced a fumble against the Minnesota Vikings. This helped the Seahawks win a very close game 10–9. The Seahawks later lost in the next round of the playoffs.
Final Full Season: 2016
In 2016, Kam Chancellor was again named a defensive team captain. He had a great game against the New England Patriots and won NFC Defensive Player of the Week.
In the 2016 season, Kam Chancellor had 47 tackles and two interceptions. The Seahawks made the playoffs again. He had six tackles in both playoff games before the Seahawks lost.
Injury and Retirement: 2017-2018
On August 1, 2017, Kam Chancellor signed a new three-year contract. However, on November 18, it was announced that he would miss the rest of the season. He had suffered a neck injury in Week 10. He was placed on injured reserve. Even though he missed many games, he was named a Pro Bowl alternate.
On July 1, 2018, Kam Chancellor shared on social media that his neck injury had not healed. He hinted that he might not be able to play football again because of the risk of paralysis. He was officially placed on the team's physically unable to perform list. Kam Chancellor later shared that he had spinal stenosis and bone spurs in his neck. On May 9, 2019, the Seahawks ended his contract.

Kam Chancellor's Life Outside Football
Kam Chancellor is married to Tiffany, and they have a son born in July 2019. When he was a child, Kam often visited the Boys and Girls Club.
With his wife, Kam Chancellor launched a special line of luxury shoes called "the Chancellor Collection." Kam Chancellor's nephew, KeAndre Lambert-Smith, also plays college football as a wide receiver for the Auburn Tigers.
