Early Life and Dance

Dmytro Monatyk was born in Lutsk, Ukraine. From 2000 to 2006, he was part of a breakdance group called 'DBS Crew'. This group was known as the best 'B-boy' group in West Ukraine. While studying law at the Interregional Academy of Personnel Management, he spent his free time dancing and making music. He later became a lawyer, but his passion for music and dance was stronger.

First Steps in Music

In 2008, Monatik tried out for a TV show called Star Academy. He made it to the finals but didn't join the main project. That same year, famous singer Natalia Mohylevska asked him to join her dance team. This was a big moment for him, and he moved to Kyiv to pursue his dream.

He also started his first music group, 'Monatique', in 2008. They played funk and soul music. In 2009, he joined another group called 'D'arts'. For two years, he gained a lot of experience, including working on a ballet show.

Starting a Solo Career

Monatik began his solo music journey in the summer of 2011. His first solo song was called "I Flew Away". The music video for this song was even filmed on a mobile phone! Around this time, many popular artists asked Dmytro to appear in their music videos. He also worked as a choreographer for other singers.

In November 2012, Monatik performed on the TV show X-Factor (Ukrainian TV series) as a special guest. After releasing three more songs in 2012 ("Air", "Terrorising", "Important"), he started his own dance team in March 2013. They toured with his music across Ukraine, Belarus, and Russia.

On August 24, 2014, Dmytro released a Ukrainian song called "Maybe That's Enough". This song carried a message of peace for the conflict in Donbas. In November, he toured cities like Kyiv, Odesa, Lviv, and Dnipro with his "Now" tour, named after his single.

In early 2015, Monatik had successful duets with other artists. He sang "Quieter" with Anna Sedokova and "Wet" with Quest Pistols Show. Both songs also had music videos.

On May 25, 2016, he released his second album, "Sounds", which had 16 songs.

In February 2017, a planned concert in Moscow was canceled. On May 9, 2017, Dmytro performed at the opening of the first semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 in Kyiv. He sang his hit song "Spinning" in English.
