This district includes neighborhoods like Pacoima, Sunland-Tujunga, Sylmar, and Mission Hills. Monica Rodriguez officially started her role on July 1, 2017.

Monica Rodriguez's Career Journey

Before she was elected to the Los Angeles City Council, Monica Rodriguez held an important position as Vice President of the Los Angeles Board of Public Works. This board helps manage many important city services, like keeping streets clean and maintaining public buildings.

Helping the City and Businesses

The Mayor of Los Angeles, Eric Garcetti, appointed her to this board in 2013. In her role, she worked on several projects to improve the city. 2007 City Council Race

Monica Rodriguez first ran for City Council in 2007. She was hoping to take the place of former Councilmember Alex Padilla. In that election, another former Councilmember, Richard Alarcon, won the seat.

2017 Special Election

On May 16, 2017, Monica Rodriguez was elected to represent the 7th District. This was a special election because the previous Councilmember, Felipe Fuentes, had left his position. During her campaign, she received support from Mayor Eric Garcetti and the Los Angeles Times newspaper. She won the election against Karo Torrossian by more than 1,300 votes.

After she was sworn in, Monica Rodriguez joined Councilmember Nury Martinez. At that time, they were the only two women serving on the Los Angeles City Council.

2022 Re-election

On June 7, 2022, Monica Rodriguez was re-elected to continue representing the 7th District. She won with almost 68% of the votes. She defeated Elisa Avalos, who was the former president of the Pacoima Neighborhood Council.

Monica Rodriguez lives in the Mission Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles. She lives there with her husband, Raul, and their two children. She earned her college degree from Occidental College.
