Monte Vista is a city in Colorado, United States. It's the biggest city in Rio Grande County. In 2020, about 4,247 people lived there. The city is known for its beautiful "mountain view," which is what "Monte Vista" means in Spanish.

History of Monte Vista
Monte Vista was first planned out in 1884. Before it became a city, the area was a simple stop for trains. The Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad used it as a place to get water. The city was officially started on September 27, 1886.

Monte Vista is located in the United States. The city covers an area of about 2.65 square miles (6.87 square kilometers). Most of this area is land. Only a small part, about 0.02 square miles (0.05 square kilometers), is water.

Monte Vista has a public library called the Carnegie Public Library. It's a great place for people to read and learn.
Sandhill Crane Festival
Every March, something amazing happens near Monte Vista. Almost 20,000 Sandhill Cranes visit the San Luis Valley. These large birds stop here during their long journey north for spring. It's a very popular event for bird watchers!
