Montserrat Teixidor i Bigas (born February 25, 1958) is a Spanish-American professor. She teaches mathematics at Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts. She is an expert in a field called algebraic geometry. This area of math uses algebra to solve problems about shapes and spaces. She especially studies something called "Moduli of Vector Bundles" on curves.

Early Life and Education
Montserrat Teixidor i Bigas was born in Barcelona, Spain, in 1958. She loved learning and went to the University of Barcelona. There, she earned two important degrees: a bachelor's degree and a PhD. For her PhD, she wrote a special paper called "Geometry of linear systems on algebraic curves." Her teacher, Gerard Eryk Welters, helped her with this work.
Her Career in Mathematics
Montserrat Teixidor i Bigas has had an exciting career in math. She worked at the University of Liverpool in England. While there, she wrote an important paper for a math journal in 1988.
Proving a Math Idea
In 1997, she worked with another mathematician, Barbara Russo. Together, they proved a big idea in math called Lange's conjecture. This idea helps explain how certain math objects, called "vector bundles," behave. They also figured out what happens in a specific math situation using a clever trick.
Teaching and Research
Since 1989, Professor Teixidor i Bigas has been a math professor at Tufts University. She has also reviewed papers for many important math journals. These include the Bulletin of the American Mathematical Society and the Duke Mathematical Journal.
She has visited other famous universities to teach and do research. These include Brown University and the University of Cambridge. She also helped organize a special group at the Clay Institute. This group studied "Vector Bundles on Curves," which is her area of expertise.
Studying at Radcliffe College
In 2004, she spent a year at Radcliffe College. She was a special fellow there, called a Vera M. Schuyler Fellow. During this time, she focused on how the shapes of curves are connected to the math equations that describe them.
Important Writings
Professor Teixidor i Bigas has written many important papers for math journals. Here are some of her selected works:
- "Brill-Noether theory for vector bundles," published in 1991.
- Curves in Grassmannians, published in 1998.
- "Green's conjecture for the generic
-gonal curve of genus
," published in 2002.
- Existence of coherent systems, published in 2008.
- Brill-Noether theory for stable vector bundles, written with Ivona Grzegorczyk, published in 2009.
- Vector bundles on reducible curves and applications, published in 2011.
- Maps between moduli spaces of vector bundles and the base locus of the theta divisor, written with Tawanda Gwena.
- Linked alternating forms and linked symplectic Grassmannians, written with Brian Osserman, published in 2014.
