Monyak Hill facts for kids
Monyak Hill is a rocky hill in Antarctica. It stands about 700 meters (2,300 feet) tall! This hill is found at the northern end of the Flowers Hills, which are part of the larger Sentinel Range. The Sentinel Range is located in the Ellsworth Mountains in Western Antarctica.
Monyak Hill is surrounded by large areas of ice and glaciers. To its west, you'll find the Dater Glacier. The Ellen Glacier is to its north, and the Lardeya Ice Piedmont is to its east.
This hill gets its name from a very old fortress called Monyak, which is in southern Bulgaria.
Where is Monyak Hill?
Monyak Hill is located at 78°18′28″S 84°30′29″W / 78.30778°S 84.50806°W. It is about 4.6 kilometers (2.9 miles) north of Dickey Peak. It's also about 12.75 kilometers (7.9 miles) east-northeast of Mount Levack, which is in Sullivan Heights. Another nearby peak is Mount Besch in Barnes Ridge, about 11.2 kilometers (7 miles) south-southeast of Monyak Hill.
