The Early Life of Moon Deck
Moon Deck was a brown stallion, which means he was a male horse. He was born on March 28, 1950. His birthplace was a ranch in Wharton, Texas. J. B. Ferguson was his breeder.
Moon Deck's father was a famous horse named Top Deck (TB). His mother was a Quarter Horse mare named Moonlight Night. Moonlight Night was born in Louisiana.
Moon Deck's Racing Career
Moon Deck was a busy racehorse! He competed 62 times over six years. He won 11 races and finished second 11 times. He also came in third place six times.
He earned 75 racing points from the American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA). This helped him win the Superior Race Horse Award. His fastest speed rating was AAA, which was the highest possible. After six years of racing, Moon Deck was sold for $9,000.
Moon Deck's Offspring
Moon Deck became a very successful father (sire) to many horses. Some of his most famous children include Jet Deck and Top Moon. Other notable offspring were Solar Fancy, Cue Deck, Caprideck, and Jet Too. Many of his children also became great racehorses or important breeding horses.
Honors and Legacy
Moon Deck passed away on January 13, 1974. He died because of a twisted intestine.
In 1996, Moon Deck was given a special honor. He was inducted into the AQHA Hall of Fame. This means he is remembered as one of the greatest Quarter Horses ever.
