Moran Atias (mor-ahn ah-tee-ahs; Hebrew: מורן אטיאס) is an actress and model from Israel. She was born on April 9, 1981. Moran became well-known for her roles in Italian movies like Gas, Oggi sposi, and Mother of Tears. She is also famous for working with director Paul Haggis. She appeared in his 2008 TV series Crash and the 2013 movie Third Person. Moran Atias also had a main role in the TV show Tyrant on the FX channel.

Early Life and Beginnings
Moran Atias was born in Haifa, Israel. Her family has Moroccan Jewish roots. When she was 15, she appeared on a TV show for young people called Out of Focus. At 17, she planned to join the Israel Defense Forces (the Israeli army). However, she was diagnosed with meningitis, a serious illness, so she could not join.
Instead, she started a career in modeling. She first modeled in Germany and then in Italy. In Italy, she was discovered by famous designer Roberto Cavalli and became a model for his brand. Her younger sister, Shani Atias, is also an actress in Israel.

Starting as a Model
Moran Atias began her TV career at age 15 on the Israeli youth program Out of Focus. By the time she was 17, she moved to Germany to start modeling. She worked for big fashion brands like Roberto Cavalli, D&G, and BBG jewelers. Later, she even hosted a talk show in Italy.
Moving into Acting
After becoming a successful model, Moran was encouraged to try acting. She has acted in movies and TV shows in English, Italian, Hebrew, and Spanish. In 2005, she was nominated for Best Actress at the Festival Sguardo al Femminile for her role in the Israeli film Days of Love.
Her acting led her to roles in Italian movies. She played a character in Gas and then starred in the romantic comedy Oggi Sposi. She also appeared in Mother of Tears, a horror movie that was part of a famous trilogy. This movie was shown at the 2007 Toronto International Film Festival.
Working in the United States
In 2008, Moran Atias got a role in the drama series Crash. This show was based on the Oscar-winning movie of the same name. She played Inez, an immigrant character. After one season, she became the main female star of the show, acting alongside Dennis Hopper.
Working with director Paul Haggis on Crash led her to be cast in his 2010 movie The Next Three Days. In 2011, she worked on a TV project called Radical, where a role was written just for her.
In 2012, she starred in the Israeli TV series Allenby Street. She played Mika, a dancer who had a secret past. Moran also helped produce this show and tried to bring it to the US. She was later cast in the FX series Tyrant. This show was created by the same people behind the successful series Homeland.
Her work on The Next Three Days also led to the 2013 film Third Person. Moran Atias helped create and develop this movie with Paul Haggis. She played 'Monika,' a character from Romania. To prepare for the role, she lived in Italy for four months. She experienced living without basic things like running water or electricity to understand her character better. She also studied to perfect her Italian and Romanian accents. She was a co-producer for the film and helped with the script. The movie premiered at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival.
Helping Others
Moran Atias is also known for her humanitarian work, which means helping people in need.
In Italy, from 2005 to 2006, she was a spokesperson for the city of Milan. She helped with campaigns against graffiti and animal cruelty.
After the big 2010 Haiti earthquake, Moran volunteered with Artists for Peace and Justice (APJ) alongside actor Sean Penn. She helped people leave Haiti and go to Florida. On another trip to Haiti, she took part in a workshop at a film school called Ciné Institute. She also helped organize charity events for APJ at the Cannes Film Festival and in New York. These events raised money for a free high school for children in Haiti.
She is also a goodwill ambassador for IsraAid, another organization that helps people. She continued her humanitarian work in Haiti after the 2010 earthquake.
In April 2020, Moran Atias volunteered at a hospital in Tel Aviv, Israel. She helped care for patients who had COVID-19.
