Moriches (pronounced moh-RITCH-iz) is a small community in Suffolk County, New York. It is known as a hamlet and a census-designated place (CDP). This means it's a small area that the government counts for population, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Moriches is part of the larger Town of Brookhaven. In 2020, about 3,026 people lived here.

History of Moriches
The name "Moriches" comes from a Native American person named Meritces. This person owned land in the area long ago, on a place called Moriches Neck.
The Jurgielewicz Duck Farm
One of the most famous businesses in Moriches was the Jurgielewicz Duck Farm. It started in 1919 next to the Forge River. This farm was huge, covering about 65 acres. It was known for raising many Pekin ducks. At its busiest, the farm raised one million ducks each year! It was even called America's largest free-range duck farm. Sadly, the farm closed down in 2011.
