Where is Mortsel?

Mortsel is made up of different areas. These include Mortsel-Dorp, Oude-God, and Luithagen. It shares borders with several other places. These are parts of Antwerp (like Wilrijk, Berchem, and Deurne), Borsbeek, Boechout, Hove, and Edegem.

A Look Back in Time

Mortsel has an important place in World War II history. On April 5, 1943, a factory in Mortsel was bombed. This factory was used to fix planes for the German air force. Most of the bombs missed their target. Instead, they hit homes and buildings where people lived.

Sadly, this caused a lot of damage and loss of life. Many civilians, including children, were killed. This event was a very sad moment for the city during the war.

Later, on March 27, 1945, the last V-2 rocket aimed at Antwerp fell in Mortsel. This rocket also caused the deaths of 27 people.

What is Mortsel's Economy Like?

Mortsel is home to the main offices of Agfa-Gevaert. This is a well-known company that makes products for imaging and photography.
