Moses Ingram is an American actress known for her amazing roles in TV shows and movies. You might know her as Jolene from the Netflix series The Queen's Gambit (2020). For this role, she was nominated for a big award, the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie. She is also famous for playing Reva Sevander, also known as the Third Sister, in the Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022).
Early Life and Education
Moses Ingram grew up in Baltimore, Maryland, in a big family with six children. Her mom worked with kids, and her stepfather helped run things in the city. When she was just 10 years old, her mom and a teacher helped her join an after-school theater program. This is where she first started acting! She later went to the Baltimore School for the Arts and finished there in 2012.
After high school, Moses wanted to go to college, but it was hard because of money. She decided to go to Baltimore City Community College in 2012. Even though this college didn't have a drama program, her advisor told her to keep acting. She auditioned for local plays and worked many part-time jobs to pay for her schooling. She earned an associate degree from the college.
In 2015, Moses won a regional acting competition. She placed fourth in the national competition. The person who won that competition, Jonathan Majors, told her to try out for the Yale School of Drama. She was accepted with a scholarship and started there in the fall of 2016.
Before starting at Yale, she changed her first name to Moses, like the person from the Bible. She said she prayed and heard the name "Moses" in her head. She felt her old name didn't fit her journey anymore.
In 2018, she received a special award called the Princess Grace Award. In her last year at Yale, Moses got great reviews for playing the main character, Viola, in a version of William Shakespeare's play Twelfth Night. She finished her studies and earned her Master of Fine Arts degree in June 2019.
Career Highlights
Just one month after finishing Yale, Moses tried out for a role in The Queen's Gambit in New York City. She got the part of Jolene, who is Beth's friend from the orphanage in the series. Her acting was so good that she was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie.
Next, Moses appeared in a drama called The Same Storm. She also played Lady Macduff in Joel Coen's movie The Tragedy of Macbeth, which came out in 2021. In 2022, she was in Michael Bay's action movie Ambulance. Because of her Emmy nomination and these roles, Variety magazine named her one of ten actors to watch in 2021.
Moses Ingram also starred in the Disney+ Star Wars series Obi-Wan Kenobi. She played Reva Sevander, also known as the Third Sister. This character is an Inquisitor who hunts down Jedi after Order 66. After the show came out, Moses received many mean messages online. Disney and her co-stars, including Ewan McGregor, quickly stood up for her. Ewan McGregor said that people sending bullying messages were "no Star Wars fan" in his mind. For her performance, she won the Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Streaming Television Series.
Moses will appear in two upcoming Apple TV+ series: Lady in the Lake with Natalie Portman, and The Big Cigar. In 2023, she also joined the cast of a movie called The End.
