Moshé Mizrahi (born September 5, 1931 – died August 3, 2018) was a famous Israeli film director. He was known for making movies that told interesting stories.
Biography
Moshé Mizrahi was born in Egypt. In 1946, when he was about 15 years old, he moved to what was then called Mandatory Palestine. Later, in the 1950s, he went to France to study how to make films.
He directed 14 movies in both Israel and France. Three of his films were nominated for a very important award called the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. This award is also known as an Oscar. His films that were nominated were I Love You Rosa, The House on Chelouche Street, and Madame Rosa.
In 1977, his movie Madame Rosa won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film! This was a big achievement for him. The film starred a famous actress named Simone Signoret.
In September 1994, Moshé Mizrahi was honored at the Haifa Film Festival. He received an award for his amazing work and contributions to Israeli movies throughout his life.
One of his important films, Les Stances à Sophie, was not widely seen at first. However, it was re-released in 2008, allowing more people to discover it.
In 2009, Mizrahi was living in Tel Aviv, Israel. He taught filmmaking workshops at Tel Aviv University's film school, sharing his knowledge with new filmmakers. His wife, Michal Bat-Adam, is also a film director and an actress. She played the main characters in several of Mizrahi's movies. Today, she teaches acting classes at Tel Aviv University.
Moshé Mizrahi passed away on August 3, 2018, at the age of 86, due to pneumonia.
