What Were the Mosport Can-Am Races?
The Can-Am series was known for its powerful and fast sports cars. These cars were often very different from each other. This made the races super exciting to watch! Mosport Park was one of the main tracks where these amazing cars competed.
Who Won the Mosport Can-Am Races?
Many skilled drivers and teams raced at Mosport. They all wanted to win the Can-Am trophy. The races were often sponsored by big companies like Pepsi-Cola and Molson.
Top Drivers and Teams
Some drivers won more than once at Mosport. Denny Hulme from New Zealand was a top driver. He won three times for the McLaren team. McLaren was a very successful team, winning five times at Mosport.
Other famous winners include Mark Donohue in 1966. He drove a Lola T70-Chevrolet. In 1969, Bruce McLaren himself won in a McLaren M8B-Chevrolet. Dan Gurney also won for McLaren in 1970.
The races continued through the 1970s and 1980s. Drivers like Patrick Tambay and Al Unser Jr. each won twice. Al Unser Jr. won in 1982, driving a Frissbee-Galles GR2-Chevrolet.
Canadian drivers also had their moments. Jacques Villeneuve won in 1983. Horst Kroll won twice in 1985 and 1986. The last Mosport Can-Am race was won by Paul Tracy in 1986. He was also from Canada.
