The Clarington 200 (which used to be called the Mosport 200) is an exciting stock car race. It happens twice a year at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada. This race is a big part of the NASCAR Pinty's Series, which is Canada's top stock car racing championship.

In the past, one race would take place on the park's long, twisty 3.957 km (2.459 mi) road course. Another race was held on a shorter, 0.805 km (0.500 mi) oval track, which is now closed. The Clarington 200 has been a part of the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series (now Pinty's Series) every year since 2007. Before that, it was part of other cool racing series like the USAC Stock Car division and the CASCAR Super Series.

History of the Race

The Clarington 200 has a long and interesting history, going all the way back to 1962. Over the years, it has been known by different names, including Peterborough International, Kawartha 250, and Mosport 200.

Early Years (1960s-1970s)

When the race first started in 1962, it was part of the USAC Stock Car series. Famous American drivers like Rodger Ward and Paul Goldsmith won the very first races. Later, racing legends such as Mario Andretti and Parnelli Jones also took home wins in 1967. Another big name, A. J. Foyt, won a USAC Stock Car race here in 1978. These early races were usually held on the road course.

CASCAR and ASA Eras (1990s-2000s)

In the 1990s and early 2000s, the Clarington 200 became a key event for the CASCAR Super Series, which was a popular Canadian stock car series. During this time, races were held on both the oval and road courses. Many Canadian drivers became champions here. For example, Don Thomson Jr. became a standout driver, winning many times. The race also briefly joined the ASA National Tour in 1992.

NASCAR Pinty's Series Era (2007-Present)
