The mountain is also part of the Rogue River–Siskiyou National Forest. This forest covers most of the Siskiyou Mountains. The border between Oregon and California is about 5 miles (8 km) south of Mount Ashland.

What is Mount Ashland Made Of?
Mount Ashland is mostly made of a type of rock called granite. It also contains other igneous rocks, like diorite and granodiorite. These rocks are formed when hot, melted rock cools down.
