Mount Bullock is a mountain located in the beautiful Central Coast region of British Columbia, Canada. It stands about 36 kilometers (22 miles) northeast of a town called Port Hardy.

This mountain is found on the north side of the lower part of Actaeon Sound. Actaeon Sound is like a smaller arm of water that branches off from Drury Inlet. To the north of Mount Bullock, you'll find Lee Lake. Right to its south is the Bond Peninsula.

How Mount Bullock Got Its Name

Mount Bullock is named after a person connected to the British Royal Navy. Its name appears in a book called Burns Naval Biography, which was published way back in 1849.

Close by, there's an island called Dove Island. This island is at the entrance to Actaeon Sound, which you can reach through Actress Passage. It's believed that Dove Island was named after a gunboat called HMS Dove.

A gunboat is a small warship that carries guns. The HMS Dove was commanded by Lieutenant Commander James Bullock. His ship, the HMS Dove, worked as a "tender" to a larger ship, HMS Actaeon. A tender is a smaller boat that helps a bigger ship, often by carrying supplies or people. They were active in places like the East Indies and Chinese waters many years ago. It is thought that Mount Bullock was named in honor of Lieutenant Commander James Bullock.
