Mount Church is a tall mountain in Alaska, United States. It stands 7,621 feet (2,323 meters) high. This mountain is part of the Alaska Range and is located inside Denali National Park and Preserve. It looks over the huge Ruth Glacier.
Mount Church is found on the west side of the Ruth Gorge. It is also close to another mountain called Mount Grosvenor.
Naming the Mountain
This mountain was named by a famous explorer, Dr. Frederick Cook. He explored the area a long time ago. Dr. Cook was known for his expeditions in the early 1900s.
Mountain Weather
Mount Church is in a very cold climate zone. This is called a subarctic climate. It has long, snowy winters and cool summers.
Temperatures can drop below −20 °C (which is −4 °F). With wind, it can feel even colder, below −30 °C (−22 °F). The best time to visit or climb Mount Church is usually from May through June. The weather is most favorable then.
