Mount Crawford (New Hampshire) facts for kids

Mount Crawford is a mountain in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, in the United States. It is located in Coos County. This mountain is part of the Montalban Ridge and offers great views of Crawford Notch.

You can reach Mount Crawford by following the Davis Path. This trail starts near the Notchland Inn in Crawford Notch. The Davis Path also continues north along Montalban Ridge all the way to Mount Washington.

Where is Mount Crawford?

Mount Crawford is found in a special protected area called the Presidential Range–Dry River Wilderness. This area helps keep the natural environment safe.

The mountain is also part of the Saco River watershed. This means that water from the mountain flows into the Saco River. For example, water from the northern parts of the mountain flows into Sleeper Brook. Water from the southern parts goes into Raxor Brook. And water from the western parts flows directly into the Saco River. To the east, Mount Crawford connects to Mount Resolution along the Montalban Ridge.

The Story of the Davis Path

The Davis Path trail is named after a person named Nathaniel T. P. Davis. He was the one who created the path. Nathaniel Davis was married to Hannah Crawford.

Hannah's father was Abel Crawford. He owned a famous inn called the Crawford House. This inn was located in Hart's Location. Nathaniel Davis even helped manage the inn for a while. The path is a lasting reminder of their family and their connection to the White Mountains.
