Mount Dawson is a very tall mountain in the Selkirk Mountains of British Columbia, Canada. It stands at about 3,377 meters (11,079 feet) high. You can find it inside Glacier National Park, southeast of Rogers Pass.
Mount Dawson is special because it has two main peaks, like a double top! The highest peak is called Hasler Peak, and the second one is Feuz Peak. Hasler Peak is actually the tallest point in all of Glacier National Park. It's also the second highest peak in the entire Selkirk Mountains. Mount Dawson is ranked as the 58th highest mountain in British Columbia. A large ice field, the Dawson Glacier, sits on its eastern side.
Why is it called Mount Dawson?
Mount Dawson got its name in 1888 from Reverend William S. Green. He named it after a famous geologist named George Mercer Dawson (1846-1901). George Mercer Dawson was a very important scientist. He was part of the British North America International Boundary Commission in 1873. Later, from 1895 to 1901, he became the director of the Geological Survey of Canada.
Weather at Mount Dawson
Mount Dawson has a subarctic climate. This means it has very cold winters with lots of snow. The summers are usually mild. Temperatures can drop below -20 degrees Celsius (-4 degrees Fahrenheit). With the wind, it can feel even colder, sometimes below -30 degrees Celsius (-22 degrees Fahrenheit).
