Mount Emmons, also called Emmons Peak, is a tall mountain in Duchesne County, Utah, United States. It stands proudly within the Ashley National Forest and the High Uintas Wilderness. These areas are protected places where nature can thrive.
This impressive peak is located about 5.76 miles (9.27 km) southeast of Kings Peak. Kings Peak is actually the highest mountain in Utah! Mount Emmons reaches a height of 13,448 feet (4,099 m) above sea level. That's really high up!
Why is it Called Mount Emmons?
This mountain was named after a famous geologist, Samuel Franklin Emmons. Geologists are scientists who study the Earth's rocks and how the Earth was formed. Another mountain in Colorado was also named after him.
The Community of Mount Emmons
Did you know there's also a small community named Mount Emmons? This little town is not on the mountain itself. It is located about 1 mile (1.6 km) southeast of Altamont, Utah. This community is about 25 miles (40 km) south of the actual Emmons Peak.
