Mount Hight is a cool mountain found in Coos County, New Hampshire. It's part of the Carter-Moriah Range, which is a group of mountains within the famous White Mountains. This range stretches along the eastern side of a place called Pinkham Notch. Mount Hight has South Carter Mountain to its north and Carter Dome to its southwest.
Exploring Mount Hight
Mount Hight stands tall at 4,675 feet (about 1,425 meters) above sea level. Even though it's quite high, the Appalachian Mountain Club doesn't count it as a "four-thousand footer". This is because it's very close to Carter Dome, and the dip between them isn't deep enough. Think of it like a smaller bump on the side of a much bigger hill.
Amazing Views from the Top
One of the best things about Mount Hight is its summit, or top. Unlike some other peaks in the area, the very top of Mount Hight doesn't have many trees. This means you get some of the most amazing and wide-open views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. You can see far into the distance!
On the other hand, Carter Dome, which is the tallest mountain in this range, has a lot of trees at its top. This means the views from Carter Dome are much more limited. So, if you want to see a huge panorama, Mount Hight is the place to be!
Hiking the Carter-Moriah Range
Mount Hight is a popular spot for hikers, especially those exploring the Appalachian Trail. This famous trail actually passes right over Mount Hight. Hikers can enjoy the beautiful forests and rocky paths as they make their way to the summit. The trail connects Mount Hight to other peaks in the Carter-Moriah Range, offering a fun challenge for adventurers.
