Mount Howard is a cool mountain located in the Wallowa area of northeast Oregon. It's a special place known for its amazing views and unique nature. The mountain was named after a famous person from history, a Civil War general named Oliver O. Howard.

A large part of Mount Howard is very important for nature. An area of about 1,084 acres (which is about 4.4 square kilometers) is called the Mount Howard-East Peak area. In June 2016, this area was named a National Natural Landmark.
Being a National Natural Landmark means it's a very special place for plants. It has many different kinds of plants that grow in its unique mountain grasslands. Some of these plants are endemic, which means they only grow in this specific area and nowhere else in the world! There are also many other rare plant species here. Scientists and nature lovers study these plants to learn more about them.
