Mount Macduff is a tall mountain peak in the Purcell Mountains of British Columbia, Canada. It stands at 3,009 meters (9,872 feet) high. This impressive mountain is part of the Macbeth Group.

Mount Macduff is located about 60 kilometers (37 miles) north of a town called Kaslo. Its closest and taller neighbor is Mount Macbeth, which is about 4.7 kilometers (2.9 miles) to the south.

The first time climbers reached the top of Mount Macduff was in 1960. A. Maki and Robert C. West were the first to make this climb, using the southwest slope.

Naming Mount Macduff

Mount Macduff got its name from Lord Macduff. He is a famous character in Macbeth, a play written by William Shakespeare.

The mountains and features around the Macbeth Icefield are often named after characters from this play. Other nearby peaks include Mount Lady Macbeth, Mount Fleance, and Mount Banquo. The name "Mount Macduff" was officially recognized on July 17, 1962. This approval came from the Geographical Names Board of Canada.

Weather at Mount Macduff

Mount Macduff has a subarctic climate. This means it has very cold and snowy winters. The summers are usually mild.

Temperatures on the mountain can drop below −20 °C (–4 °F). With the wind chill, it can feel even colder, sometimes below −30 °C (–22 °F).

Water from the mountain's snow and ice melts. This meltwater and rain flows into streams. These streams then join the Duncan River.
