What is Mount Martin Like?
Most of the land in Mount Martin is used for growing sugarcane. You might also see some areas where animals graze on natural plants. To get the harvested sugarcane to the sugar mills, there's a special network of small train tracks. These are called cane tramways.
A Look at Mount Martin's Past
Mount Martin once had its own school! The Mount Martin Provisional School first opened in May 1906. A provisional school was a smaller, temporary school. On January 1, 1909, it became the Mount Martin State School. This means it became a permanent public school. However, the school closed its doors on December 31, 1961.

Mount Martin has some special places that are listed as heritage-listed sites. This means they are important parts of history and are protected. One of these sites is the Mount Martin Cane Lift. It's located on the Mirani-Mount Ossa Road. A cane lift was a machine used to load sugarcane onto trucks or trains.
