A Mountain for Skiing
For many years, Mount Rowe was a popular spot for skiers. It had different ski operations over time, making it an important part of New Hampshire's skiing past.
Gunstock Mountain's Early Days
One of the most famous ski areas in New Hampshire, Gunstock Mountain Resort, actually started some of its operations on Mount Rowe. The mountain once had the original single chairlift for Gunstock. This chairlift would carry skiers up the mountain so they could enjoy the slopes. Even though this chairlift is no longer there, it shows how Mount Rowe played a role in the beginning of Gunstock.
Belknap Ski Jumps
Mount Rowe was also home to the Belknap Ski Jumps. Ski jumping is a sport where skiers go down a ramp and then launch themselves into the air, trying to fly as far as possible before landing. These jumps were a place where athletes could practice and compete, adding to the mountain's reputation as a winter sports hub.
Alpine Ridge/Mt. Rowe Ski Area
Another ski area on the mountain was known as Alpine Ridge, or sometimes just Mt. Rowe ski area. This was a place where families and friends could come to ski and have fun. However, this ski area is now "defunct," which means it is no longer operating. Even though it's closed now, it's still a part of Mount Rowe's interesting story.
Exploring the Belknap Range
Mount Rowe is just one of many mountains in the Belknap Range. This range is a group of mountains in central New Hampshire. They are known for their beautiful views and offer opportunities for hiking, especially in the warmer months. Even though Mount Rowe's ski areas are mostly a thing of the past, the mountain itself remains a part of this scenic New Hampshire landscape.
