Weather at Mount Tantalus

Mount Tantalus has a special kind of weather. It is called a marine west coast climate. This means it gets a lot of rain and snow. This type of weather is common in western North America.

How Weather Forms

Most of the weather here starts over the Pacific Ocean. Big air masses, called weather fronts, move east. They travel towards the Coast Mountains. When these air masses hit the mountains, they are forced to rise. As they go higher, they cool down. This cooling makes them drop their moisture. This moisture falls as rain or heavy snowfall.

Temperatures

The Coast Mountains get a lot of precipitation. This is especially true during winter. Temperatures can get very cold. They can drop below −20 °C. With the wind, it can feel even colder, below −30 °C.
