History of Mount Wolf
The land where Mount Wolf now stands was first officially recorded in 1746. This was a long time ago!
Around 1850, a railway company decided to build a train station in this area. It was placed between the towns of Emigsville, Liverpool (now Manchester), and New Holland (now Saginaw). The station was first named Mount Campbell. This name honored Thomas Campbell, who helped make sure the railway was built all the way to Harrisburg.
Later, in the late 1850s, the station and the local post office changed their name to Mount Wolf. This new name was chosen to honor George H. Wolf. He was an important person in the community. He worked as the stationmaster, the postmaster, and also owned a local store and warehouse.
Mount Wolf officially became its own self-governing borough on August 23, 1910. This means it could make its own local rules. The town is run by a mayor and a group of six council members.
In 2011, the Mount Wolf Centennial Committee received awards for their work. They were recognized for their town's website and for their efforts in the community.
Did you know that Tom Wolf, who was the Governor of Pennsylvania from 2015 to 2023, is from Mount Wolf? He is a family member of George H. Wolf, the person the town is named after!
