Moyle District Council was a local government body in the northeast of Northern Ireland. It was located in County Antrim. The council's main office was in Ballycastle.
In May 2015, Moyle District Council joined with three other councils. These were Ballymoney Borough Council, Coleraine Borough Council, and Limavady Borough Council. Together, they formed a new, larger council called Causeway Coast and Glens District Council.

About Moyle District Council
Moyle District Council was responsible for local services in its area. It covered about 480 square kilometers (185 square miles). The district was known for having more Catholic residents than Protestant ones. This made it different from most of County Antrim.
How the Council Worked
The council had 15 councillors. These councillors were elected by the people every four years. They were chosen from three different areas:
- Ballycastle
- Giant's Causeway
- The Glens
The system used for elections was called proportional representation. This system tries to make sure that the number of seats a political party gets matches the number of votes they receive.
Parliamentary Representation
Most of the Moyle district was part of the North Antrim constituency. This is an area that elects a Member of Parliament (MP) to the Westminster Parliament in London. It also elects members to the Northern Ireland Assembly.
However, most of the Glens of Antrim area was part of the East Antrim constituency.
History of Mergers
There were plans to change how local government worked in Northern Ireland. These plans were called the "Review of Public Administration" (RPA).
Earlier Merger Plans
Back in 1991, there was an idea to merge Moyle Council with the nearby Ballymoney council. The new council would have been called "Dalriada". However, both councils strongly disagreed with this plan. Another council, Ballymena, also opposed it. After a public meeting, the idea was stopped, and Moyle Council stayed on its own for a while.
The Final Merger
Under the later Review of Public Administration, Moyle Council was set to merge again. This time, it was with Coleraine, Limavady, and Ballymoney councils. This merger was planned to create a much larger council area. The new area would cover about 1,796 square kilometers (693 square miles). It would have a population of over 131,000 people.
The elections for local councils were supposed to happen in 2009. But they were delayed until 2011. The merger of these councils was officially confirmed in September 2011. It finally happened in 2015, creating the Causeway Coast and Glens District Council.
Population of Moyle
According to the 2011 Northern Ireland census, the area that used to be Moyle District Council had 17,050 residents.
